Two former soccer officials charged with bribery
Two former soccer officials were each sentenced to eleven years in prison on Monday in Central China's Hubei province for bribery, as the anti-corruption efforts within Chinese soccer industry continues.
Li Yuyi, the former vice-chairman of the Chinese Football Association, was convicted of bribery and sentenced to eleven years in prison, along with a fine of one million yuan ($140,000) in the Intermediate People's Court of Jingzhou in Hubei.
According to prosecutors, Li took undue advantages of various positions he formerly held in Shanghai, the Chinese Football Association and the Chinese Football Association Super League Co from 2004 to 2021 to assist others in matters such as soccer club relegation and project contracting. He was found to have received money and valuables worth over 12 million yuan in return, according to prosecutors.
Also on Monday, the People's Court of Jiayu county in Hubei sentenced Fu Xiang, the former director of the Wuhan Football Sport Management Center, to eleven years in prison with a fine of 140,000 yuan in a case involving embezzlement and bribery.
The courts ordered the recovery of embezzled assets to be returned to the affected unit and the confiscation of assets obtained through bribery.
