China invests $31.2M in Pakistan during '08-09

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Federal Minister for Investment said here on Saturday that China has contributed US$31.2 million Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to Pakistan during the financial year 2008-09.

Talking to media, the federal minister, Senator Waqar Ahmed Khan, said that China would make further investments in oil and gas, mining, infrastructure, engineering, agriculture, IT, telecommunication and many other economic sectors of Pakistan.

He was of the view that frequent inflow of FDI would help strengthen Pakistan's economy besides enhancing productivity in industrial and other development sectors.

The minister said that Pakistan was offering level-playing field to both local and foreign investors, saying that every sector of its economy was open for investment.

"We are committed to providing conducive business atmosphere to make our economy more resilient and vibrant," the minister added.

The federal minister said that the present government recognizes the importance of the power sector and intends to have a more focused approach towards its development on a priority basis.

He also expressed the hope that the graph of Pakistan's economy would further go up with the efforts of government.
