Han tomb found on ancient battlefield
( 2003-08-29 10:04) (CCTV.com)

The legendary warrior Xiang Yu took his own life about 2,200 years ago when his troops were defeated in Guzhen County in today's east China's Anhui Province. His death marked the beginning of the Han Dynasty. Now the battlefield where he fell has yielded clues of the men who came after him.

This ancient battlefield hid a typical Han Dynasty tomb. Archeologists unearthed burial articles, including ceramic vases of different shapes and exquisitely-made blue bronze accessories.

Cai Wenjing, deputy director of Guzhen County Relics Research Institute, said: "The Han pottery from this area usually comes in sets. Their sizes range from small, medium to large. The yellowish glazed ones we found this time are very rare."

Archeologists say this Han tomb is one of the best-preserved ancient tombs in the area, with the largest amount of funerary objects. Research is being carried out to unlock more secrets about its history.
