Greece unveils ambitious plan to bid for EURO 2012
(Xinhua)

Azerbaijan, Italy, Romania, Russia and Turkey also intend to submit bids for the event, while Croatia/Hungary and Poland/Ukraine are working on joint candidacies.

With the government slow in finding a solution for the use of the Post-Olympic venues one year after the unforgettable Athens Olympic Games, most Greeks are worrying that the Euro 2012 will leave them so-called "valuable" legacy of white elephants.

Greece's unexpected win of EURO 2004 prompted the country more confident to bid for the EURO 2012.

However, cost overrun of the Olympics has plunged Greek government into a deep budget deficit, 6.1 percent of its GDP, more than double of the EU stability standard.
