JAKARTA - Technology of code division multiple access (CDMA) for data access in Indonesia is expected to grow significantly, leaving a big opportunity for gadget producers to develop smart phone, an executive said?in Jakarta?on Monday.

Zhao Guang, vice president for CDMA Terminal Product Operation Office of China's ZTE Corporation, told reporters in a press briefing that currently, there is no CDMA smart phone in Indonesia.

He said, "Meanwhile, data usage accessed by global system for mobile-communication (GSM) smart phone sometimes is interrupted due to its limited loading capacity. That's because there are too many access attempt by GSM smart phone users as GSM technology is more popular in Indonesia compared to CDMA one," said Zhao.

On the other side, he said that CDMA technology in Indonesia is one of the most advanced in the world.

"CDMA's Rev B technology, the most advanced CDMA technology, was launched in Bali province in January 2010," he said.

According to Zhao, such condition has triggered ZTE to develop CDMA smart phone. "The CDMA smart phone will fortify ZTE's position in Indonesian market."

Indonesia's market share for CDMA handset was 20 percent in 2010 from 4 percent in 2007.
