Pakistan prime minister tours Bhasha Dam project

Updated: 2020-11-02

Imran Ahmed Khan, prime minister of Pakistan, led a delegation on an inspection tour of the site of POWERCHINA's Bhasha Dam project to learn more about the work progress.

Khan listened to a report on the project's progress during the inspection tour. The Bhasha Dam project is strategically located, and will bring good economic and social benefits to the local area after completion. Since the official launch of the project on July 15, the dam area survey and right bank diversion works have been completed. In addition, construction of upstream and downstream cableway bridges, temporary river-crossing pontoons, as well as production, office, and living facilities have been fully carried out. Currently, the project is advancing rapidly.

Khan noted that the Bhasha Dam project is a major project long-awaited by the Pakistani government and people, as well as the largest water conservancy project currently under construction in Pakistan. He added that it is particularly important for the entire country as the project can not only generate electricity and store water, but also improve the efficiency of the Tabela Dam, drive employment, as well as promote local economic development.

After the completion of the Bhasha Dam project, it will be the world's tallest and largest RCC dam. It will provide Pakistan with 18 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, bolster the development of tourism in the northern region of the country, reduce the cost of civil electricity and national energy imports, as well as provide greener and environmentally friendly power resources.

The construction of the project will also offer 20,000 local job opportunities and drive economic growth in the country.
