Shanghai's Jiading district reached a deal with Shanghai Shenkang Hospital Development Center on May 31 to make Jiading the site of the new Shanghai Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The new hospital, covering 6.7 hectares, will be located at the south of expressway G1501 and the west of Chengliuzhong Road.

According to the deal, the two sides will establish a joint team. Jiading will give political support and social services for the construction and development of the new hospital, while Shenkang will be responsible for its planning, construction, and operation.

The hospital is expected to develop into a top comprehensive hospital integrating medical treatment, education and scientific research.

Ma Chunlei, Party secretary of Jiading, said that the arrival of the Shanghai Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Jiading will greatly advance the development of Jiading's healthcare industry, particularly in the traditional Chinese medicine sector.

Ma also said that he hoped the two sides will work together to develop the hospital for the benefit of local residents.

The current Shanghai Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, established in 1954, has more than 70 traditional Chinese medicine experts.
