Shanghai pledges to inherit the core spirit of the Party

By Cao Chen ( chinadaily.com.cn ) 2021-04-25

Shanghai, where the Communist Party of China was founded in 1921, will inherit the core spirit of the Party and fulfill its original missions, the city's Mayor Gong Zheng said at a news conference held by the publicity department of the Central Committee of the CPC in Beijing on Thursday.

"The core spirit of the Party has been deeply integrated into Shanghai's culture. The glorious revolutionary course the Party has gone through, achievements in history it has made and great spirit that the Party owns over the past century, have been fully embodied in the city," Gong said.

"Led by the Party, Shanghai which used to be filled with foreign concessions and suffering from plunder and war has become a modern socialist international metropolis in the east of the world, stepping into the future."

In terms of the rich cultural resources related to the Party's history in the city, Zhou Huilin, the city's publicity chief, said the government has carried out in-depth publicity and education across the city on heritage protection. According to recent research, there are 612 related cultural ruins and memorials in Shanghai.

"We will systematically promote exploration, protection, research, art production, and tourism in the field," Zhou said.

According to Zhou, forums on the Party's history will also be organized in May. A total of 124 books regarding the topic have been published so far.

The government also launched the "Shanghai Through Our Eyes" series on Apr 8 to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China this year. The series focuses on 100 foreigners working and living in the city and paints a picture of China's development through their perspectives.
