Inbound and outbound passengers from more than 100 countries and regions have passed through the Mohan exit and entry border inspection station in Southwest China's Yunnan province as of Wednesday, news portal The Paper reported. The number marks a record high in the station's 31-year history.

Statistics from the station show that since the beginning of this year, it has handled more than 1.66 million entries and exits from 101 countries and regions, a year-on-year increase of 81.32 percent and 50.75 percent, respectively.

Among them, foreign nationals made 676,000 entries and exits, up 153.71 percent compared with the same period last year.

Laos, Thailand, and Malaysia are the top three countries with the highest number of foreign nationals entering or exiting the station, according to the statistics.

The top three reasons for entry and exit are tourism, visiting relatives and friends, and attending conferences or conducting business.

Mohan, located in the southernmost area of Yunnan at the junction of the China-Laos Railway and the Kunming-Bangkok Road, is a major transportation hub linking China and the Indochina Peninsula.
