China recorded about 14,400 production safety accidents from January to September this year, down by 24.5 percent from the same period last year, the Ministry of Emergency Management said on Tuesday.

The accidents resulted in approximately 13,400 deaths, representing a year-on-year decrease of 18.4 percent.

There were only six major and serious accidents in the first three quarters of this year, down by nearly 54 percent from the same period last year. The number of resulting deaths was 110, down by 54.5 percent.

Shen Zhanli, spokeswoman of the ministry, said the overall production safety situation is stable in China. However, high-risk events have occurred in some regions and industry sectors, and emerging risks in the sectors of transportation, fishing and maritime, storage and transportation of hazardous chemical and tourism have required heightened vigilance.

"The fourth quarter has always been a peak season for production and operation, as well as a period prone to frequent production safety accidents," she said, adding that it is imperative to fully implement safety precautions.
